PEACE  POSTER ADVISORY

TO ALL DISTRICT A-4 LIONS CLUBS

This is the time to get started with your Peace Poster Campaign.  This year’s theme is “The Power of Peace”.  The contest encourages young people 11 to 13 to think about peace, creatively express what it means to them and to share their unique visions with the world.  We are attempting to simplify the administration of the contest this year in that the District A-4 Peace Poster Chair has been authorized to obtain for your convenience a number of kits, both English and French.  You must order from the undersigned and return the finished entry to the same address.  We hope this will eliminate confusion and reduce chances of the entry going astray.

Your first step is to designate a Peace Poster Chair if you do not already have one.   This person should make all arrangements with your local school(s) and/or youth group and be the contact with the A-4 Chair, Lion Norm Edwards.  The next step is to order an appropriate number of kits from your A-4 Chair. You need one kit per school and your cheque is to accompany your order.  Kits cost $12 each.  Cheques are to be made out to “Lions International – District A4” and marked “for Peace Poster”.   Ensure your order clearly indicates to whom and where the kits are to be sent.

Money also is required for prizes at the A-4 and MDA level so all clubs are encouraged to consider making a small donation (say $50 or so) so as to ensure the success of the project.   District prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are $150, $125, and $100 respectively.  MDA prize for the big winner is $1000 (I believe) and they also cover some of the cost of bringing the winner and parents/guardians to Toronto for the presentation.  We send them money to help in this.

These kits are a marvel of clarity, containing nine steps to get you through your part of the contest.  All necessary administrative material is included and clearly explained.  The kits contain a postcard “Notice of Participation” which should be returned to the A-4 Chair not the Governor, as indicated.  All milestone dates are explained but the most important one for you is your entry must be in the mail, postmarked not later than 15 November 2009.  Let us make this a banner year and really put the Lions in touch with our youth.
