Each year District A4 recognizes the outstanding dedication, hard work and achievement of our Lions through honouring these Lions with a number of major individual and Club awards. This page has been established to inform all Lions in the District of the criteria for eligibility to win each award.

These awards are normally presented at the annual District A4 Convention.


THE THE LION JOHN COWELL LEADERSHIP MEMORIAL AWARD

The Ottawa Vanier Lions Club sponsors this award. The Ottawa Vanier Lions Club will purchase the main plaque, the keeper plaque and arrange for the annual engraving. It is awarded to the Lion who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in Lionism either at the Club, District of Community level during the past year.

The District Governor with a selected team (at the discretion of the Governor) chooses the most deserving Lion of the year from the list of submitted candidates.

DEADLINE: Must be submitted to the sitting Governor by March 31st


FRED CHAPMAN MEMORIAL AWARD

The West Ottawa Lions Club presents this award in memory of the late Lion Fred Chapman, "Mr. Secretary", to many in District A4.

Candidates will be determined on a point system by the Region Chairman.

The following points are mandatory.

THE BOB ZIMMERMAN MEMORIAL MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AWARD

This award is intended for annual competition among all Lions clubs in District A4. Zone Chairman will present candidates to Region Chairmen who will submit their recommendations to the Governor. Criteria focus on membership growth and retention, training and development, and involvement in Lionism. The award can be won by the club accumulating the highest score on the following criteria over the period April 1st to March 31st.

Membership Growth 20 points for each new member inducted
Inter-Club Visitation 5 points for each inter-club visit hosted (minimum of 4 members)
5 points for each inter-club visit made (minimum of 4 members)
District A4 Officer School 10 points for each club member participating
Conventions 5 points for the club coordinating a Multiple District Convention
10 points for a club(s) coordinating a District A4 Mini Convention
Fund Raising 5 points for a 5% increase in gross receipts from a fund raising project, compared to the previous year
USA/CANADA Leadership Forum      5 points for each club attending
Zone Advisory Meeting 15 points for a club attending a zone Advisory Meeting
5 points for a club hosting a Zone Advisory Meeting
New Club Sponsorship 40 points for a club that sponsors a new Lions Club
Hellen Keller Fellowship 5 points for a club sponsoring one or more Hellen Keller Fellows
Zone Chair Discretionary 30 points may be allotted by the Zone Chair to any one club in his/her zone which has, in the opinion of the Zone Chair, shown exemplary performance during the time frame

DR. MICHAEL ST. JAMES MEMORIAL AWARD

The Madawaska Valley Lions Club proudly presents this award in memory of the late Dr. Michael St. James. Lion Mike was a dedicated and tireless worker on behalf of Lionism for over 25 years, both in his community of Barry’s Bay and worldwide through his annual trips to provide eye care to the people of Guyana and the Caribbean.

The criteria will focus on a club’s involvement in the original goal of Lionism adopted at the Lions International Convention of 1925, to eliminate or alleviate eye disease and vision impairment throughout the world.

Zone Chairmen may present candidate clubs to the Region Chairmen who will submit their recommendations to the District Governor. The award will be presented annually to the club in district A-4 scoring the highest points using the following criteria over the period from April 1st to March 31st.

CLUB PRESIDENT EXCELLENCE AWARD

100% Presidents Award Requirements

In order to receive the Club President Excellence Award, each club president who has qualified must have the club secretary fill out the form and have it approved and signed by the proper district officers.

THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR WILL PRESENT THE AWARD.

The following requirements must be fulfilled:

  1. The club shall comply with the Association Constitution and By-Laws and the policies of the International Board of Directors and has refrained from any action encouraging unauthorized use of the name, goodwill, emblem, the marks "Lions", "Lions Clubs", "Lioness", "LEO", "Lions International", "Lions Clubs International" and other insignias of this Association.
  2. The club has conducted at least one major service activity during the year in line with the International Program.
  3. The club has accomplished at least one of the following:
         (a) A net increase in membership for the year. (Deaths and transfers not counted)
         (b) Sponsorship of at least one Lions club
         (c) Qualified for the Club Retention Award
  4. The club does not have an unpaid balance of over US$50.00 owed to International headquarters as of March 31st of that year.
  5. The club has submitted the following three reports to International
         (a) Monthly Membership Report (C-23-A)
         (b) Annual Activities Report (A-1)
         (c) Annual Club Officers Report (PU-101)
  6. The President has attended the following Lions meetings duringthe year.
         (a) At least (2) Zone meetings
         (b) Club Officer’s School
         (c) District, Multiple District, or International Convention
  7. The president certified that all new members were properly indoctrinated and involved in service activities or committee work.
  8. The club conducted a club retreat during the year.

The form is to be recommended by the Zone or Region Chairman, and forwarded to the District Governor.

DEADLINE: The form must be mailed to International Headquarters
within 30 days following the International Convention.
