DISTRICT A-4 GOVERNOR'S CURLING BONSPIEL

About the Event

The Annual Governor's Curling Bonspiel has been held since 1974 with overwhelming success. See list of yearly winners. You can view the trophy .

In 2002 it was decided to change the rules as to who would hold the next year's bonspiel. Rather than the winner having the choice of holding the event in the succeeding year, it was decided to move the bonspiel around District A-4 by Region. This was adopted to give each Region a chance to host the event and also, more importantly to eliminate the event from being held in the distant reaches of the District every year.

How the Sponsor is Chosen

To determine the Club within the Region who will sponsor the succeeding bonspiel, the winning team from the Region designated to sponsor the event will have the first choice of refusal. If they refuse, the next highest team from the designated Region will have the next choice. And thereon and so forth. Should there be no team from the Region designated to hold the succeeding bonspiel, any Club from the designated Region will have the chance.

Should no Club in the designated Region wish to sponsor the next year's bonspiel, then the next Year's Region will have the chance based upon the same criteria as if it was that Region's year to hold the bonspiel. The original Region will lose its chance to sponsor the Governor's Bonspiel for that designated year only.

Future Governor's Curling Bonspiels will be held as follows:

Year 2007 - Region 30
Year 2008 - Region 41    Maxville & District Lions Club, March 1, 2008 -Pictures from Event
Year 2009 - Region 22    No Bonspiel
Year 2010 - Region 13    Cumberland Lions Club

Year 2011 - Region 30
Year 2012 - Region 41

Year 2013 - Region 22
Year 2010 - Region 13

Thereafter, the bonspiel will be repeated in the above order by Region.
